31 December 2009 | Pittwater, Sydney
Christmas Day was spent in the Basin, a bay in Pittwater, where we had planned to join Jonny and Kate on Newtsville and spend the day swimming, going off in our kayaks (Christmas present to each other!), eating prawns and drinking champagne! Unfortunately it was cold and cloudy! Yes, it came as a bit of a surprise to us as well! We did have a great day though despite the weather (we are British after all) and had a great lunch with J & K, Jonny's mum and dad and Jeff and Kirsty off Nemesis. The weather got worse in the afternoon and we ended up going back to our mooring and spending Christmas evening tucked down watching Andy's Christmas DVD, Midsomer Murders!
We spent Boxing Day on Nemesis out in Sydney Harbour watching the start of the CYCA Sydney - Hobart Race. IT was another grey, cloudy day but very exciting to see all those amazing 100' maxis jockeying for position whilst waiting for the gun to go off and then taking off out to sea. Apparently there would usually be up to 3000 spectator boats out watching the start of this race but the weather had put lots off so there were maybe only 1000. Thanks so much to Jeff and Kirsty for taking us out and getting us a grandstand view. Jeff has great plans to take part in it next year, joined maybe by Andy, Jonny and Paul from White Hawk so perhaps we'll be watching them.
The plan for the next three days had been to go sailing around Pittwater with Max and Christine, the friends who let us rent their flat before we went away last year. We had been really looking forward to it and Christine and I had planned some fabulous meals with accompanying wine! Unfortunately the weather did not improve and we eventually abandoned the trip and returned to dry land. Real shame but we'll hopefully have plenty of weekends to get out again before the summer is over (unless of course, we get a buyer for the boat!)
