We have been trying to sort out where to leave Matilda for the winter and had been advised to do it in Lavrion, about 70k south of Athens, as it was pretty cheap and we could get the new engines fitted there easily. Unfortunately we couldn't get in touch with anyone, as it is not an official shipyard, so decided to come over from Aegina to sort it out. Once we got here, the weather turned decidedly windy and wet and so we are going to stay here until she comes out of the water next Thursday and we fly back to the UK. Its not a particularly pretty place, more of a working Greek town, but it's a charter place so lots of different charter boats coming and going keeping us amused.
Yesterday we got the bus to Athens. It took about an hour and a half and cost Euro 4.90. Can you imagine how much a similar journey into London from, say, Cheltenham would be?? We had been here a few times back in April when we first arrived but never did the Acropolis Museum which is highly recommended. It is such an interesting place if you get the chance to go. I'm not the museum type usually but everything is beautifully displayed with simple explanations beside it. Difficult to believe most of the statues and stone work were done in 300-400 BC.
The photo is the Acropolis reflected in the glass of the museum.
