Happy Mothers Day!
11 May 2008 | Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island, Queensland
We left Townsville for Magnetic Island on Mother's Day after dutifully calling all our mothers. Magnetic Island would have been a nice backdrop to take our mothers out for lunch for Mothers Day. Well, we were thinking of you, does that count?
Magnetic Island was an Island paradise that we unfortunately did not do justice by spending more than one night there. It was more a case of we came, we saw, we left. We arrived at midday and jumped into the inflatable to go to shore while Kenny had a sleep (we've worn him out already!). There were a number of boats anchored up in Horseshoe Bay and we motored along the shoreline looking for good places for the guys to try their hands at fishing when the witching hour was finally upon us (later they were yelled at by an angry man insisting that they were fishing in a research area, it was not marked on any charts, go figure!). While we were motoring along we noticed a lot of rose petals and realised (too late of course) that someone had just scattered their mother ashes and we were driving straight through them, we felt awful. We turned around and headed into the beach.
The place was packed, I wasn't expecting so many restaurants and shops. Mini Mokes and convertible hire cars abounded as tourists drove around to see what the Island offered. I had originally wanted to hire a Mini Moke and take a drive around the Island as what we were seeing was only a small part of it but the fact that we had already been sitting for a day or two in Townsville meant that everyone was keen to move on to our next destination. So regretfully I do not have a lot to say about Magnetic apart from the Mint Cornetto's were nice and I was able to purchase a trashy mag there for my celeb fix.
We left at 8.00am the next morning for Orpheous Island.
