The Barramundi still allude us!

14 June 2008 | Lockhart River, Queensland
Our sole purpose for stopping at the Lockhart River was to catch a Barramundi, there's not a lot else there to see. We were also expecting to see a lot of Crocs here too but that didn't happen either, it's seems that the crocs are in hiding this season.

Jay, Jason and Loretta made the trek down the river in the inflatable in search of the allusive barramundi, they seemed to catch plenty of other fish but not the one we were after. At one point Loretta was holding her catch in the air for a photo when something behind the inflatable slid into the water with a big splash, Jay turned in time to see the large head of a crocodile just as it went under the water towards them. With Loretta asking if she should throw the fish back and Jay yelling, 'throw it back, throw it back' they high tailed it out of there! Even the fish had a panicked expression on its face as it heard the splash!

We did venture to the beach for a quick walk with some people we had befriended from another boat called 'Galliano'. Again, no sign of the crocs but they were always in the back of our minds and as we walked and talked everyone scanned the beach for croc slides. We spent a full day here playing cards and fishing before heading to Margaret Bay where we hear there is going to be a full moon party. Bring it on!
