Hello Northern Territory!

27 June 2008 | Gove, Northern Territory, Australia
It was great to be back near land again after our experience through the Gulf and it was also nice to meet up with the other boats in the rally that had made the crossing before us. We anchored in front of the Gove Yacht Club just around the corner from a huge ore treatment plant. The smoke from the plant was thick in the air and we woke up feeling like we had been on a big night out the night before.

The Gove Sailing Club was a small facility industy surroundings, it was the day before the intervention when we arrived and the place was packed with indigenous people spending the last of their money. We were able to have a meal here which was expensive for the simple fare that it was but then, when you're in the middle of nowhere beggars can't be choosers. It was nice to catch up with people while having a beer watching the sun set while overlooking the yachts moored in the harbour.

There wasn't much to see in Gove, it is a mining town and is very hot and dusty as I expected the Territory to be. We did organise a mini bus with some other yachties to go into the township of Nhulunbuy to replenish our supplies at the local Woolworths but apart from that we didn't see much else. We were keen to move on through the 'hole in the wall' and continue our journey around to Darwin.
