Tango, a Description of Our Home

Tango is a Tayana 52' aft cockpit cutter built in 1982 and commissioned in 1983.  Janet and I bought Tango in 2013 and started 5 years of renovation, sailing, repairs, and more renovation in Houston, Texas (October 2013 to May 2014), Pensacola, Florida (May 2014 to November 2015), and Redwood City, San Francisco Bay, CA (November 2015 to Oct 2018).  We are now cruising full time through Mexico and will cross to the South Pacific in March 2019.

The refits and repairs to our home include:

* replacing the aft 100 gal fuel tank, rebuild port aft closet, 100% new chain plates
* replace both A/C & Heater condensor units (16K BTU) and the freezer/fridge condensor unit. Modernized control systems for all.
* installing a fuel polishing and priming system and moving fuel valves out from under the cabin ladder
* installing fresh water electric toilets, new"black water" hoses and fittings, cleaning and rebuilding "that" old 17 gal tank.  Ultimately built a 2nd black water tank plumbed and installed it for a total capacity of about 50 gal, installed tank level monitor system for water and black water
* cleaning and testing the two 75 gal potable water tanks and installing sensors for the tank levels, installing redundant pressure pumps and cross overs, new hoses
* rerigging the boat to the designed configuration, new mainsail, moved the running rigging so we can handle the boat from the cockpit
* new galley oven, new microwave, new freezer/refrigerator compressor system
* rebuilt the main electrical panel, updated nearly 100% of the AC and DC wiring, installed LED fixtures everywhere
* new generator (Fisher Panda 6KW) under the galley cabinets
* carefully tested the original engine (over 4K hours), finding it needed engine mounts, high pressure fuel pump, mechanical lift pump, replaced lots of gaskets, replaced the Maxi Prop
* 100% new instruments and navigation system (B&G 5000 series), new SSB (Icom M802) with Pactor P4 Modem, redundant VHF FM, Class B AIS, Forward Looking sonar, 2nd depth sounder, acoustic water speed sensor, 2nd water speed sensor (DST800), Zeus chartplotters (helm and nav table), Trident2 consoles at companionway, autopilot, Inmarsat ISatPhone 2 with Optimizer router
* install of an Iverson awesomemost dodger and bimini with 520 watts of solar
* installed Hydrovane wind autopilot, Watt & Sea hydrogenerator (300W), EchoTech watermaker (120VAC, 30 Gal/Hr)
* new mainsail. Genoa and staysail checked and refitted as needed, asymetrical spinaker
* new hot water heater (10gal, 120VAC and MDE Coolant heated), in lazarette.
* rebuilt headsail turning blocks leading sheets to the big winches

you get the idea... We love our home and visiting new places.
