We arrived at the Ensenada de Zapata 0’ De Antequera in the North East corner of Tenerife just before proper day light but found a good place to drop the hook. Happily anchored in just 5 metres we spent a restful day with a spot of swimming which was good recuperation from our short spell of night watches crossing from Ilas Desertas and Ilas Salvagen Grande.

Chris donned mask and snorkel and inspected everything below the water line and all is in good shape. We can’t be bothered much with the palava of salty wet-suits so haven’t actually used them yet this year but we have wished for warmer dips on occassion, especially when getting into deep water off the back of the boat. The best option, obviously, is just to dive in and get it over with - great once the shock wears off.

A great place for a haircut.
We shared the anchorage with a French family on their catamaran, another young couple with their two children aged 5 and 7. The straight-haired skipper had a haircut on deck and we were able to give compliments on a good job done later when we met up in Santa Cruz where we had a couple of days in the Marina.

I’ve been cutting Chris’s hair like this since 1980 when we started sailing together but his is very curly and forgiving so I even do it at home sometimes.

We talked over plans and they too are headed to the Caribbean but will go straight to Martinique. We may see them in the French islands when our New Zealand cousins Jill and Charles join us in January, we’re really looking forward to that.
