Heading to Paxos....

Our final dinner at the Vliho Yacht Club last night was absolutely superb as well as being fantastic value for money. We shall return! An 0800 hrs departure this morning ensured that we reached the Lefkas Channel swing bridge, about 10nm from us, for the 1100 hrs opening. Our timing was precise, arriving 3 minutes before opening and joining the short queue to get through which went without incident and leaving us with a clear run to Paxos about 32nm in the distance. With almost zero wind, this would be a 6 hour slog under engine power but this is what was expected so no surprise really. So, six hours later....we swung into Mongonissi Bay at the south end of Paxos on the off-chance there was room to anchor... absolutely no chance! The bay was packed full of charter boats so we carried on to our Plan B which was an anchorage on the east of Paxos called Kiriadi. I had anchored here twice before, solo, without any problem but this evening was a different story! Our fist attempt at anchoring was a complete failure with the anchor not holding at all so we wound all of the chain back in, picked a different spot and tried again. No luck, same problem. The thought of going another 3nm north to Lakka was not appealing as we knew that would be packed solid. Then, as if by magic, the anchor locked in solid! Phew! Kettle on for tea, relax!
