Leaving the Ocean Behind

17 May 2012 | Friday Harbor, WA
George and Sue Stonecliffe
Having pushed over the Columbia Bar first thing Tuesday, we set sail in NW15-20 kt winds, and 6' seas heading north. The winds were too much on our nose, so after seventeen hours of sailing, we finally decided to motor through, and turned East at Cape Flattery late Wednesday. Once in the Straits of Juan de Fuca, it was a downhill sleigh ride as the ocean swells pushed from behind. We passed by our San Juan Island friends' home (The Peckinpaughs), called them, and arranged to have breakfast with them at the Lime Kiln Cafe in Roche Harbor. Our appetites had returned! After breakfast we made for Friday Harbor, arriving at 1300, Thursday. Anchoring out, we dinghied in to our Cannery Village condo and Marina, where we quickly caught up with friends. Weather for the trip so far has been mostly sunny, no rain! After Saturday's Condo Association Meeting, we will start heading north.
