July Fourth Parade

04 July 2014 | Wrangell, AK
George and Sue Stonecliffe
What a pleasure watching small-town-USA (Wrangell) 's celebration of July 4th, Independence Day! First came the Harley-Davidson motor bikes, revving and roaring their engines for the crowd. The Lady Grand Marshall was next. Then the Queen and her Princesses. Then the Volunteer Fire Department showed their 7 or 8 trucks and vehicles, each with people throwing candy out to all the young children on the parade route. There were floats from a few local organizations before seeing a local Tiingit group drumming and chanting. But I don't think I've seen so much candy and toys dispersed to the children. It was Halloween all over again! Afterward we walked over to the concession stands for lunch, finding the local Police manning a BBQ booth. So we had BBQ chicken, potato salad, and corn on the cob. From another booth we bought a brownie sunday with all the trimmings. Tradition must be kept alive!
