The Hunt for the Elusive Resplendent Quetzel

While at the Toucanet Lodge in the mountains of Central Costa Rica, we went on a tour to find the Resplendent Quetzel. At 4:00am the farmer who had a Quetzel on his property called our guide, and arranged our visit. Along with birders from Germany, Japan, Switzerland, France, and the USA, we showed up shortly after 6:00am to see the bird in the early light of day. Can you believe how gorgeous this bird photo that Sue took is?! Few people see this species, and we are delighted to be among them.
