Half Way Through the Two Year Cruising
01 July 2018 | St. Augustine, Florida
George Stonecliffe
Last July 1st we left Portland, Oregon with the encouragement of friends and family. So far, our trip has taken us to numerous ports on the West Coast of the USA and Mexico. 'Julia Max' spent a month in Costa Rica, and a month in Panama. The thrill of transiting the Panama Canal was shared with our son, Ted, and two friends from the Pacific Northwest. Once on the Caribbean side, we headed north to Isla Providentia (Columbia) and the Grand Cayman Islands (British colony). Then it was on to the east coast of Mexico: Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, and the Yucatan Peninsula. Finally, we made USA landfall at Key West, Florida in middle May. After flying back to Portland for our granddaughter's high school graduation, we returned to Cape Canaveral where we had the boat hauled for hull painting and lots of varnishing. Tonight we are on a mooring ball in St. Augustine, Florida, where we may stay through July 4th to see the fireworks. Then we will be continuing north up the East Coast as we start our second year of our two year cruise. To all who have been following our sailblog, we thank you for your interest, and hope you are enjoying our trip as we are! Oh, Happy Canada Day!
