We finally broke away from Cape May and poor weather, to run north to Sandy Hook, NJ During a heavy sea state 6-8' seas and 20 knot winds our auto-pilot failed under the stress. However, our steering wind-vane succeeded in controlling 'Julia Max' until the wind subsided. Then we hand-steered for the last 5 hours to an anchorage at Sandy Hook, arriving just before dawn. Once we slept for a few hours, we headed northward to NYC through the Verazano Narrows Bridge. Heading up the Hudson River to Manhattan, we stopped at Liberty Island for a photo opportunity with the Statue of Liberty (she is pretty, isn't she?). Then we saw Ellis Island's buildings where many immigrants came to the US in the late 1800s. We fought the wakes of an unbelievable number of tour boats as we headed up to our anchorage past the final berth for the US aircraft carrier "Intrepid". The anchor was down minutes before a predicted sizeable afternoon thunderstorm. So then the Scrabble game filled the void, as we waited out the storm It's good to be here in New York City.
