Today we toured Fort McHenry in Baltimore. In Septermber 13-14, 1814 the British attacked the Fort in an effort to burn the city of Baltimore during the War of 1812. But after 25 hours of bombardment, the Fort still stood firmly against the British Navy. Sir Francis Scott Key observed the battle, and wrote a few lines which were later expanded into 4 stanzas, and ultimately resulted in 'The Star Spangled Banner'. An NPS speaker gave the historical background leading up to this battle, and the successful defense of Baltimore. Well done!
