Cape May Bird Festival

20 October 2018 | Cape May, New Jersey
George Stonecliffe
The Cape May Bird Festival has been one of our planned stops on our two-year cruise. The Festival is timed to be in sync with the bird migration on the North American coast line. Birds negotiate the coast line until the southern most cape of New Jersey known as Cape May. The numbers of bird species and masses of birds is phenomenal. Were talking 100,000 tree swallows! Thousands of scoters every hour. Hundreds of Northern Flickers in a couple of hours. Five hundred yellow-rumped warblers in a morning. The predators constantly make their way: sharp-shinned hawks, Cooper Hawks, Peregrine Falcons, Red-tailed Hawks, Broad-winged Hawks, Kestrels, Merlins, and the list goes on. Besides having great field guides, we have attended classes on bird photography, identifying birds by impression, hints on identifying warblers, and so forth. Tomorrow we will go on a boat trip into the tide rips of the Delaware Bay to see alot of sea birds.
