The Day Before Transiting the Canal
04 April 2019 | Shelter Bay Marina, Panama
Our crew members, Peter Rose and Bill Merrick, arrived on April 2nd at the Panama International Airport. We met at Albrook Mall, and spent the afternoon provisioning at Reba Smith Supermarket and the Public Market for fresh fruits and vegetables. They arrived bearing gifts, that is, my Driver's License which was lost in Saant Marteen and delivered via Puerto Rico and my son Ted in Portland, Oregon. A replacement Visa Credit Card was given to me. A radar reflector was brought from Fisheries in Seattle to replace one of two that we had lost at sea. But the surprise was their bringing a radar cable from Rogers Marine in Portland to replace one that had been cut when our radar fell from its gimbaled position on the mizzen mast. Now our radar is back up and running with a stronger larger set screw. Tomorrow, April 5th, we will start our two day transit of the Panama Canal. We will be out on station about 1:15pm waiting for our traffic advisor, ready for the first day of transit ending in Gatun Lake for the night.
