Dodd Narrows

10 May 2022 | Nanaimo, BG
George Stonecliffe | Scattered showers, 55F
Our passage took us through Dodd Narrows which has tidal currents approaching 8 knots at the wrong time to pass. Many years earlier we took a chartered boat through the Narrows at the wrong time, and felt someone had pulled the drain plug in the bathtub! When we were passing through the Panama Canal, our son, Ted, reminded us that some of the currents behind the big ships in the locks reminded him of going through the Dodd Narrows!!
After finally anchoring near Newcastle Island in Nanaimo, we went ashore for a walk. Two special bird sightings included Purple Finches and Orange-Crowned Warblers. Our phone app called Merlin helped ID these special bird songs!
