Engine Update from Ketchikan

10 June 2022 | Ketchikan, Alaska
George Stonecliffe | Rain and windy
After the mechanic spent a couple hours with our engine on June 6th, he quickly focused on the fuel injector pump. He removed a screen at the fuel return of the pump. Besides gunk, he noticed shiny metal flakes coming out of the pump!! Not good. In addition when cycling the pump, he noticed irregular pressure coming to each injector. Sometimes strong pressure, sometimes weak pressure. He commented that after doing his checks, he usually has coveralls covered with diesel fuel. Not this time. His pronouncement was 'You need to repair or replace your fuel injector pump'. With metallic chips and irregular pressure, it was easy to decide to replace the pump. That day we ordered a replacement fuel injector pump from Cook Engine in Portland. It shipped FedEx from Georgia to Portland where it arrives today, June 10. It will be shipped to Ketchikan to another mechanic who will install it on the 16th.
Meanwhile Sue has flown back to Portland for our granddaughter's graduation from U of Oregon. All works together for good!
