The Seiner 'Crystal Bay' Finishes Preparations for Salmon Season

With the nets repaired for another season of salmon fishing (June 17 to mid-October), Captain Sean and mv Crystal Bay crew head for a week of final preparations. They will be one of 18 purse seiners fishing for the Alaska General Seafoods Company. Their focus is on salmon: first Kings, then Pinks, Chinooks, Cohos, and Sockeye. Their purse net is 1/4 mile long. The Skiff which closes the purse cost $300,000! The Captain has four crew. While 'Julia Max' was at their net repair float, we met the crew. And Sean personally lent us a hand in trying to get our engine running. He ultimately recommended the mechanic that came and diagnosed our problem. Once the new fuel injector pump arrives, it should take about two hours for the mechanic to install it. Can't wait!
