Anniversary Weekend
27 January 2008 | Whangarei Harbour

Photo shows Whangarei Harbour from the top of Mount Manaia, this is looking up the harbour towards Whangarei, the Nook is on the right (between the two arms of land) half way up the photo. In the foreground is Mcleods Bay.
Paul and I sailed down our beautiful Whangarei harbour for the weekend. Ended up at the Nook for the first night, wind got up to 25knots from the SE but the Nook is a great little anchorage.
Went for a romping sail on Sunday, the wind had turned to the SSW so we sailed off the anchor and had a beautiful sail down the harbour, romped back up with the wind at 20knots against the tide. Sailed onto the anchor at the Nook and lazed around for the afternoon. The wind got up to about 25knots but eventually dropped off after dark.
Had a lazy start upped anchor at about 10am, was a bit of a struggle to get the anchor out of the mud, motored out to Parua Bay entrance then sailed up the harbour toward home. Had a near catastrophe with our towing Lure, a yacht motored up beside us and then did a cut across our stern, then about five minutes later he went back again. The lure survived intact. We think He may be a visitor as he didn't seem to know were he was going.
We had a wonderful time, can't wait to get away on our overseas trip next year. Am counting the days.
