Well Paul and I have been investigating the option of replacing our 30 year old Barlow winches. The winches we have work fine, but they are old and have a little up and down play in them. After careful consideration, and checking out the price of new winches, we have decided to refurbish the old ones.
New winches, at the size we want, cost as much as a second hand car (admittedly a cheap car). We don't even own a car. So I feel that spending that sort of money to replace something that is still working is downright silly. Call me a scrooge.
Today I attended a funeral for my Sister in-laws Father, it was a lovely affair, with anecdotes of Henry's time during the war and after. It was nice to attend a funeral where all the community from the small town were involved. The Fire Brigade was involved in a big way as Henry had been part of the service for 40 odd years.
