Cockpit floor

Beautiful
Well the last two days have been cold but beautiful. The frost for the last few mornings has been splendid, I love the crispness of it. My shoulder is definitely feeling better, I am getting a lot more sleep at night.
Paul and I went down to Kabuki this arvo and pulled up the cockpit floor. Paul thought it would take us ages, but we (well I did help a little) had it out in about 1 hour. Paul had to contort himself under the cockpit on top of the engine.
On a Westsail the cockpit floor is removeable (un-like some yachts), this gives easy access to the engine, batteries, diesel tanks, etc. Our floor had been glued down by a previous owner, and that is why it was hard to remove. We plan to put a rubber seal around the floor hatch with bolts, to hold it down. This will give us easier access in the future.

Well today is the start of the NAC Rally of New Zealand, Northland race. They set up over near the Town Basin, and cars come in and out all weekend with big throaty engines/muffler thingy's. I am not a fan of this sort of thing. In fact I think it is a waste of resources, and sets a bad example for the hotheaded "Boy Racers" that we are having problems with in New Zealand at the moment. The N Z Government is thinking of passing a special law against "Boy Racers" cruisin' around towns. It is like farting against thunder, when motor-vehicle's, racing, dragging and driving are so ingrained in our culture and psyche. When a car is no longer a status symbol ie: the proverbial "big dick" (see "Small Dick Syndrome") then we may actually be able to make some headway.

Small Dick Syndrome: Have you ever noticed that Small Men seem to own really big Cars, generally 4WD.

As you can tell I am not a car person. I agree they are a necessary part of life, just like a knife, or an oven. But do we use the car in a sensible way? The number of times I hear people complain about how expensive fuel is, and how there is not enough free parking.

When I walk to work every morning nearly every car that goes past (and there is a few) has 1 person in it...........go figure.
