It turns out that to send the map updates via the SSB, the general lat/long description structure (degrees, minutes, seconds) must be converted to another format called decimal degrees.

Because, you know, it's not hard enough the way it is.

Now we have to get the lat/long, do a series of "simple algebraic functions" on the numbers, and THEN we can post the decimal degrees, which will hopefully show up on the map so where we are will be visually apparant.

Why? Why not leave it the way the GPS gives it to us? I guess there is some computer programming reason.

Or maybe it is just a test......
