Loads

19 October 2009 | RB
Sundays approximated totals:

21 gallons of water x 8 lbs = 168 lbs
10 gallons diesel x 7 lbs = 70 lbs
liferaft approx 80 lbs = 80 lbs
spare anchor chain 40 ft
spare anchor rode 250 ft
spare anchor = 130

448 lbs loaded yesterday. We lost about an inch or so of water line, but have not yet sunk the lowest boot stripe.

We still have to top up the water tanks and in SD fill diesel tanks. We added another two portable tanks, so we'll have 30 gals in the boat's tanks and another 50 on deck. At least for the trip north, when the engine will be fighting the wind, waves & current.

I cannot find my Keens ANYWHERE. Not in the closet, no on the boat, not in any boat bags. Where did they go? May need noon trip to REI...."ANY color, size 6!"

Thanks to Jill who stopped by and helped us heave the spare anchor, rode & chain into the cockpit locker along w/ the liferaft (first on bottom, second on top!), after bravely leaving two little boys alone on her beautiful new boat to see how we were doing. The cockpit locker is completely full up....

Thanks to Glen & Janine who provided dinner and fabulous wine last night - it was a relief not to have to do anything else after all that loading.

Hurricane Rick is already weaking and is predicated to loop east soon, possibly causing damage to Cabo in the next few days (we hope not!) then falling apart over mainland Mexico. As long as ANOTHER storm does NOT develop, we should be fine.

T-47 hrs to launch, so to speak.

Extra: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. – Mark Twain
