Sea Legs but no Sea Breeze

Having a tiny issue - we taught ourselves how to convert lat long to decimal degrees but it turns out the map wants degrees and decimal minutes, which is different. So no map update today. More math....anyway, we really did have a nice send-off yesterday - as we motored past KHYC a small group of friends led three hip hip hoorays to send us on our way - I got all teary! THANKS - Hal, Ines, Julie, Marty 1 & Ron!
We left the isthmus at 6:30 this morning - we were up at 5:30 but it was so dark we waited til 6:30 while we had coffee and made hot water for the thermos. Turns out it isn't any easier to get up that early for sailing instead of work. Still needed a flashlight to avoid hitting moorings as we departed - Eastern Sky just getting light. We motored for 8 hours, never even put up the sails, although the wind did get up to about 6 knots at one point. On the nose, of course. We saw two big mola molas and one whale - we think either a young fin or baby fin w/ a mom, but we only saw the "small" one and several large whale "footprints." (the big smooth area that is left on the surface after a whale comes up and goes down again) Food - coffee first thing, oatmeal w/ the hot water from the thermos at 8, tea, snacks at 10 and 1 then dinner at the Jolly Roger in Oceanside. Trying to be very good about water and other fluid intake! Last time we were here we were on the guest docks near the Harbor Office - this time we have guest docks in front of the Jolly Roger Restaurant...it was empty when we pulled up, OF COURSE, because we nailed the parking right in front! That's it, pretty benign, although we would SWEAR the restaurant was rolling in the swells as we ate. Tomorrow we plan to depart at 8 (YAY, sleeping in!) for San Diego, which should take about six hours. Probably more motoring....
