Last Lists & Errands

24 October 2009 | SGYC, Shelter Island, San Diego
Great SGYC breakfast....then...the final hauling and toting:
1. Mount wood planks to stanchions for that lovely "cruiser look."
2. Haul 50 gallons of fuel, 16 of which went into the main fuel tank. (Haul the empty jugs up to the car, load them into the car, unload & line them up at the gas station, unscrew all the lids, follow Marty replacing the lids [fuel cuts off at $75 mark and would only take the credit card twice], load them all back into the car [ever seen a jerry can with a seat belt?!?] go back to the docks, unload them all into dock carts, wheel them out to the boat, unload them onto the dock, pour four of them into the fuel tank, haul those four back to the car.)
3. Back into the car, visit West Marine for batteries (didn't have); shoes (success for us both - we needed Teva-types for beaching at Turtle Bay and Santa Maria, they had ONE pair in each of our sizes); Radio Shack for the batteries (got the matching number but they don't fit and will have to return tomorrow) Vons for final shopping list. On the way back to the boat stop again at the gas station to refill the four fuel cans. The a.m. price was $3.16/gallon; p.m. price was $3.72/gallon. Guess they figured out the Haha is in town?
4. Borrowed water hoses from two other boats and hooked them together and scrubbed the boat. Right after some birds flew over and shit on the starboard side. Scrubbed and rinsed again. Guess what happened? I think they have the damn birds trained or something...gave up and just wiped it off.
5. Filled water tanks. One leaked and Marty repaired the view port with teflon tape. Un-connected the hoses, recoiled and returned to owners.
6. Started hefting the fuel cans aboard the clean decks. A lovely neighbor came and made me stop and lifted them to Marty himself. Same lovely neighbor helped us by OPENING A BRAND NEW POWER CORD and helping us hook up to shore power from the boat behind us. These people are SO nice!
7. Moved all the boat cushions out into clean cockpit sans birdshit and mounted the Lifesling. Much more room in saloon and aft cabin now for crew!
8. Showered.
9. Crew dinner with Cindy & Ed & Ashes-the-cat. Did TWO loads of laundry!
(Cindy and Ed are just too wonderful what with the loaner car and laundry!)
10. Night night! WE ARE DONE AND READY TO GO!

Extra: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. – Mark Twain
