NO JOY WITH OUR SEARCH OF VAHANGA ATOLL
11 September 2018 | DEPARTING ACTEON GROUP ISLANDS
David Nottage
Greetings As expected we found no sign of a castaway on Vahanga. There are three atolls in the Acteon Group, all with lagoons but no way to take any boat inside. All are covered with coconut trees and other growth. We went around Vahanga blowing our air horn and looking foe signs of life. The island was covered with plastic balls from the pearl farms that could have easily be used to spell out a help message, but non was seen. There was and old shed on the NW side and wrecked sailboat behind the beach too. We have had a lovely sail today , a little slow but very smooth and cool . We are of to the Souther Tuamoto islands, possibly Hao or Amanu or both, The wind has just picked up so we are sliding along at 5.5 k with all the ports open while Nancy does dinner prep. We will be in Atuona, Hiva Oa to pick up Robie Estes on Sept 30, In between we will figure out as we go, for sure Fatu Hiva after the Tuamotos.
A SPECIAL NOTE TO DEVI NOTTAGE We sayw a bunch of chickens hanging out with a huge pink pig right behind the boat on the beach in Rikitea. There were tons of all sizes of chickens and chicks cruising the beaches and streets of Rikitea . Every morning the Man at the bakery throws old flour on the grass and all the neighboring chickens come running full speed for the pile. I wonder if there are bugs in out baguette flour. oops. good niight
