HIDING FROM THE RAIN
25 September 2018 | HANAVAVE , (BAY OF VIRGINS) FATU HIVA

Greetings from the Marquesas French Polynesia We arrived Sunday Afternoon about 1545 and dropped anchor in Omoa Bay at the Village of Omoa.. We decided to go there first to do some food shopping and go to the only Bakery on Fatu Hiva. We knew the anchorage there would be rolly as its open to the South and the swells roll thru the bay. Inthe morning we walked thru town checking out the Magazin (Store) and looking for the Bakery. WE woke up the Baker to learn that they were closed but would open at 1300 with a new run of bread. Nancy was stoked to find lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers at the Magazin . We ran into a fisherman cleaning the nights catch Ahi and Ono, so I bought a nive hunk of ono for dinner, was good on the barbi last night. Logan went ashore at noon for a walkabout and bread at 1300. We pulled anchor at 1345 and motored up to Hanavave hopping for a smoother anchorage. I seemed a little better, fewer willywas but still rolly.. We were pleased that there were only 3 boats at Hanavave, Last time in 2015 there we 8 and it was a bit crowded. We were/ are hoping to get ashore for a visit when the morning rain clears. Still waiting. Yesterday I put up the new sun shade that Munch made for us, fits good under the big awning on one side or the other depending on how the boat is hanging in reference to the afternoon sun. This morning we also discovered it works well as a rain and cool Mauka wind screen for the cockpit. Thanks Munch ,good job . We will probably stay here a couple of days and move on to Tahuata and then Hiva Oa to pick up Robie Estes who is hanging out in Tahiti this week.
I forgot that the sleepy baker gave us some Avocados and Pamplemousse , I also found a lime tree with limes all over the ground, so yep I loaded them into a bag. Disaster struck the Pamplemousse haul, I left the bag at the post office and it was gone when mar wnt looking for it. Should be able to get more in Hanavave, every yard seems to have them falling on the ground. Special Note to Devon Nottage: There are many chickens in Omao and lots of baby chicks. They are pretty wild and run away when you get close. I can hear the Roosters crowing here in Hanavave so we will check them out while we are walking around the villiage. Aloha Grampa Nottage
