Wishing for Sumner

The trouble with the pork chops is that they constituted a new form of substance, very good if you want to go on a diet without pork chops. Not so good for me. I don’t know how these things became tempered like steel, the spanish rice with them should have dissolved some of that iron.

Shrimp Poke Bowl

I enjoyed the last of the stuffed cabbage. The fridge was now bare of leftovers except for bean soup which was in the little freezer. I decided to make a clam florentine soup derived from a shrimp recipe.

Storm and Stuffed Cabbage

Not my clowns, not my circus. That is an amusing phrase, especially now. RFK jr in charge of health. The clowns come in, send in the clowns. It seems to be a recurring theme. If you put clowns in charge of government agencies, then you can take them down. I rant, but government is not a single [...]

Kielbasa Sour Cream

The Thanksgiving Boater's Feast is looming around the corner and I will be involved in vegetable prep again. I forgot what I made last year for the Pot Luck Dinner and went back in the blog and saw it was my ole mole chili dogs. Geoff had made 4 gallons of gumbo and enough rice to feed an army. At [...]

Red and Bleu

The 11 hour drive to St. Marys was punctuated by a couple of traffic jams, the last one occurring right at the exit for Laurel Island Parkway just North of Kingsland where the big submarine base is located. I chose to exit there and avoid the jam, although I would be on local roads for the last few [...]

Departure

I had bought a package of meatloaf meat, a mixture of beef, pork, and veal, because it was on manager’s sale. That meant it had to be cooked right away. I didn’t really have a plan for this meat. I ended up making it into hamburger mix and fried 4 cheeseburgers, one of which I had for breakfast [...]

Eve Pays Tax

Cap'n Chef Andy
I tested the fuel tank sender that came out of the fuel tank and it tested bad. Supposed to show 33-240 ohms but it reads open. I searched online and found a good price, but at the very last step in the order process the shipping price comes up, over $16 for a $21 item. Whoah. Trying to pull a fast one on the Cap’n. I ordered from eBay, $30 free shipping. The unit is Moeller 035722-10 for those who are interested. The Moeller unit is identical to the original equipment.
.
The American Legion called while I was viewing YouTube, it seems someone had the same fidgety fingers as me and so my charge, with a 20 per cent tip was over a thousand dollars. We had a good time, but not that good.
.
I spent the day watching football on the NFL’s channel that has clips from all the games. It was good enough to have me watch all day. The bad part was when my Jets unloaded another stinker, losing 26-0 to the Broncos.
.
I guess I drank somewhat after that. Awoke at 3AM with a dry mouth and had to pee. Running out of water, and everything else. Went back to sleep. Awoke at nearly 11AM. Made breakfast with the last of the water. Had a text from Eve, come help me unload my vehicle from the arts and crafts show. I eventually responded. She offered me a chicken salad sandwich.
.
I biked up there and helped her move stuff around, being careful not to bang my head into several low mounted beams. It is an old house. She needed to pay her taxes in Princess Anne. Can we invite Cuddily? I asked. It was an idea, it would be OK to just go up with Eve and pay taxes and maybe have lunch with a drink or two. We invited Cuddily. The clincher was she could have the passenger seat while I sat in back with Kahlua, Eve’s young black lab bitch.
.
Kahlua likes to lick, and I tried to restrain her, but she settled down and put her head on my leg, like a pillow. What a nice, beautiful dog. After paying taxes we went up the road. Some confusion. I couldn’t hear due to wind noise. We ended up at Tall Tales, an upper scale bistro that welcomes dogs in the back patio. We had crushes, orange, grapefruit, good food, ice and water for Kahlua. Nice weather, not too hot, I sat in the sun. We went back to Crisfield and the Legion, to deal with my thousand dollar overcharge.
.
Eve was driving like someone I don’t care to mention, Wilbur. He kind of jerks the car back and forth like Radio Bill did back in the boatyard. I don’t care for that. It makes me think you don’t care how you drive, or maybe you aren’t really in control. I like to drive smooth, if I can. We made it to Eve’s house and she had to get Kahlua inside, feed her, and make a rest room stop, she was out in just a few minutes..
.
We dropped Cuddily off to get Nori the Wonder Dog and ended up at the Legion. When I went inside they said they didn’t know what happened to charge me over a thousand dollars. We got wines and went outside where the weather was beautiful. Teri the artist showed up with a wine and Cuddily and Nori made their way up on the deck.
.
A woman came out with a chit for me to sign, to get my check reimbursement for the overcharge of a couple of nights ago. I signed. Later she came out with the check and Eve wanted to give her a hug. Don’t touch me, she said, and went away.
.
We had a discussion, I said not everyone is the same, look at me, I’m very different. The person who was an accountant and didn’t want a hug might be affected, but might be afraid of covid. Maybe I shouldn’t be hugging all the people I do.
.
Cuddily needed help getting home. Teri said she would help and on my way out I saw them organizing. Eve and I went off in her giant SUV. I assumed Teri would get Cuddily and Nori home. Eve was driving on the wrong side of the road. Maybe her English ancestry was getting control of her.
.
We got to her house and I felt I shouldn’t leave her until I felt she was OK. She kept asking if I could drive my bike down the road. She was toast. Just got to love her, great artist, great friend, great chef, glad to kiss the ground after she drives like that.
.
So I bike to the marina, aware I might be compromised, as to the drinking. When I get to the dock I hesitate, is this the time I go into the water, into the foul waters of Somers Cove? No, I get off and feel sheepish. I can’t handle a bike right now. On board I deposit the check from the American Legion using the bank’s banking app. I have to pay their overbilling on my credit card, but my credit card gives me 1 ½ % back on the original purchase. What a nice day, cha ching.
