Dinghy Skeg

I was suffering with what seemed like a cold and also had allergy symptoms. I awoke and felt fine. The green pollen that was coating everything was gone. Maybe it will return.

Clammy Hands

Items came in from TEMU, the Chinese cut rate retailer. One was a nice little drone that cost about twelve and a half dollars. It looked like an easy thing to play with while I coughed and sneezed. I was fighting a summer cold, even though it is not summer elsewhere, it seems like it here. A nice [...]

Sun Doggie

After laminating the cedar strips onto the gunwales of the dinghy I found the screws I used wouldn’t come out. The epoxy had seized them. The screw heads were stripped so I cut a straight slot in the heads with the cut off wheel. The cedar smoked when the screw heads got red hot. I could remove [...]

Just Add Water

The rainy weekend started off with overcast and fog but no rain. It looked like I might be able to get something done on the D4 dinghy. I wanted to change the bow seat which is really the bow deck. The sailing option uses the deck to hold the freestanding mast. I didn’t like how the deck looked, [...]

D4 Dinghy Alternative Seats

The rain event was more wind than rain, strong winds with gusts up to 44 mph. We drove into town to see what the harbor was like. There was a small sailboat that had dragged anchor and was sitting close to shore. The tide was out. We left and played with Bleu at Notter’s Pond.

D4 Inside Seams

Day two of the dinghy build started out with me finishing wiring the hull bottoms together on the centerline of the bottom panels. This was much easier than the wiring of the chine edges of the bottom panels and the side panels.

After the Flood

We had some flood damage beneath Eve’s house in a storage room. The pizza oven was in there as well as the lawn mower and a string trimmer on wheels. Everything had been flooded. The lawn mower spewed water out the exhaust when we tried to crank it over. Neither tool powered up. I flushed the pizza oven with the garden hose to rinse off any saltwater. I returned to Sunsplash to get my ignition indicator and we confirmed both the mower and the trimmer had spark. I tipped the mower on its side and let the water drain out of the muffler. The fuel tanks and crankcase oils did not look to be contaminated.
.
Eve had a pork tenderloin roast that she marinated and planned on grilling for supper. We invited Cuddily to bring the leftover cream of chicken florentine soup as an appetizer. Eve blanched green beans and then shocked them with ice water. She put 3 sweet potatoes in the oven to slowly bake. Cuddily arrived with the soup which was put on the stove on medium heat to warm up. The grill was started. Burner #1-off, #2-on, #3-off, #4-on, #5-off.
.
We had the soup in her studio sitting on the settee or rocking chairs. Next the roast was thrown on the grill. We estimated how long it would take to cook and I brought it in to be tested by the thermometer, 118, needs more, back out on the grill. I set a timer for 5 minutes. We can’t be good judges of time with as much wine as we were consuming. When the timer went off I brought the roast in again and it registered 153, done. The grill was turned off and we served up our dinners in the dining room. The roast slices were perfect and moist. The whole meal was excellent, as always.
.
I walked Cuddily to her car which was parked around the corner to avoid the flooding which was still present. I continued through the chilly night on the bike to the marina and Sunsplash. I had the electric heater on and tried to sleep. For some reason I felt sore and achy. I fell asleep at about 3:30 in the morning and slept to 9:30.
.
I felt awful. It was light rain, chilly. I felt even more sore than when I struggled to get to sleep. I made breakfast using the alcohol stove. I was out of propane. The stove seemed to take forever. It was about noon when I decided I wasn’t going out in the rain, it would be a day of rest and recuperation.
.
Later I realized I was out of wine but even that didn’t get me to budge. I was content to try to keep awake as late as I could so that I wouldn’t fall asleep early and wake up in the wee hours. The next morning I felt fine or at least not as bad. After cleaning up accumulated trash on board I made a trip to the dumpster. I took a shower after doing a load of laundry consisting mostly of long sleeved garments. I checked the boaters lounge and found a replay of the NY Jets epic game against the #1 AFC seed, the Cincinnati Bengals. The Jets won that game with a 400 yard performance by their backup quarterback.
.
Eve called and asked if I wanted to join her and Cuddily at the Legion. I biked in the cold wind and found them together with Teri inside the Legion. We had wine and burgers. The ride back was cold.
.
The next day I slept till 11 AM. Eve had lawnmower repair on her list and I offered to help. She was in a lousy mood. Her brother-in-law was helping her and I was superfluous. Every suggestion I made was countered by a no. Just as well. The mower was borrowed from her son and he is a professional mechanic. They were following his suggestions over the phone. I left and did some badly needed grocery shopping. At the store I dropped my grocery bag which had the two products that can be damaged easily, eggs and Ritz crackers. When I arrived at Sunsplash and inspected the contents I found the eggs and crackers were intact, nothing broken. A can of starter spray however had spritzed and the smell of ether came out of the bag.
.
It is time for Thursday Night Football and my Jets face the Indianapolis Colts. I watched the first half in the boaters lounge and it was disappointing. The backup quarterback who started the game left with an injury and the 3rd string quarterback had trouble as well as the defense seemed to fall apart. I left and when I awoke this morning I could see the final score of the game, 45-30, Colts win.
