St Marys Thanksgiving Week

The last two posts represented my accumulated writing while packing a rental car, driving 11 hours South, unpacking, and getting readjusted to the boatyard in St. Marys. It was not convenient to post to the blog during that time.

Crisfield Departure

The countdown to departure from Crisfield gets down to a few days. The weekend has passed and after nice dinners and a lot of wine I find myself grilling the last strip steak. The dinner is ridiculously quick and easy. The steak is grilled for 2 ½ minutes a side and while it’s grilling several [...]

The Senior Moment

I needed to repair my garden hose at the boat so I rode the bike up to the hardware store just a little past the grocers. I took it easy, this is the farthest I’ve gone on the bike since the hip surgery. The female hose end cost $2.39 and went into my pocket. I rode back near downtown near the marina [...]

Legionaire's Disease

The ride on the rented golf cart took only 20 minutes, but was very enjoyable, both to get out of the marina and get errands done. I now had wine and two packages from TEMU. The total for the TEMU purchase was about fifty bucks. In it I had a nice chef’s knife, a cheap hearing aid, five USB LED [...]

Piscetorius

The problems of posting the blog seem to climb to new levels. When I arrived here about 6 months ago I could sometimes use the laptop to post using a USB extension cable and a little remote WiFi antenna. When this method failed to work I would write the blog on the laptop, then bluetooth it to the [...]

Cap'n Chef Andy | Thunderstorms
I deleted a whole post. It was gibberish, as usual, I was affected by re-reading “The Right Stuff” by Tom Wolfe. What a really good writer. But the effect on me was like a little boat sent off in the wake of a large ship. It affected me in other ways, my coorrespondence, see?
.
I have to write what I have to write. Mostly so I can look back, next year, or later, hopefully, and retread the steps and refresh the memory.
.
I finished the cheap hot dogs, but still had a lot of the mole. Is it like catsup that will last forever? Probably not. It did its job, it stood by and made cheap hot dogs stand proud. No, I am not working for the antacid industry. It’s hard to go to bland from blazin’ hot.
.
The weather has restricted my biking with extreme heat or lightning and thunder. So, I make do with maybe a tuna sandwich or some other uninspired food until I can get out to the grocer’s. I ended up with nothing but 5 eggs left in the fridge and one can of tuna fish on the shelf. No bread. Last water used up on morning’s coffee. But we were receiving about 3 inches of rain during an intermittent thunderstorm event.
.
I could call the car service and for ten bucks go shopping. The weather cleared late afternoon and I took my small shopping list, small but very necessary, and set out on the bike. Crisfield floods from time to time and now was the time. I had to reroute to go around the flooded areas. The weather was now cooler but humid after the storm’s passage.
.
I had checked the grocer’s sales ad and there was a special, buy one package of rainbow peppers and get a package of dinner sausages for free. Of course when I got there there were no rainbow peppers. Instead I bought the chicken special, thighs for 99 cents a pound.
.
On my way out the car service lady was outside the store and I chatted with her. She will be my transportation for my hip surgery in September.
.
The photo is of a receding puddle that I had to avoid on my way to the store.
