Closing in on the equator
14 April 2018
Marie Delight
We have now been at see for 22 days and we are slowly approaching the equator, 187NM. At the speed we are currently going it will take about 2 days. We are finally out of the ITZC and the squall zone. The skies are clearing up and we have a wind shift to south east and can now go at a beam reach in the direction we want to go. I'm glad to be out of the squall zone with constant rain - Notre Reve was starting to look like a Chinese Laundry. All the rain did bring some benefit though Notre Reve was free of salt and shiny clean and the rainwater and moisture rejuvenates your skin it gets so soft and smooth. It seems like after three weeks we should have gotten used to the motion of the ocean but she continues to throw us off balance. I am sore in my legs and have bruises all over from dancing around and bumping into things. Luckily no serious hurts, "knock on wood". I'm glad we are not older and feebler. Of the 9 boats that attempted the Puddle Jump from La Paz 2 boats dropped out because of personal injury, at least one is already there they started 2 weeks before us, 2 motor boats and a sail boat started 1 week before us and I don't know if they have reached the Marquesas or not - 2 boats have not checked in on the net and I don't know their whereabouts or if they left Mexico yet. Hopefully we will see them down the road, they are going to a different island in the Marquesas than we are - they chose Hiva Oa and we are going to Nuku Hiva.
