ditch the ditch...please
11 December 2014

Had a great anchorage last night on back river somewhere off icw. Gorgeous sunset and grilled a steak…yummy. Unfortunately I couldn’t convince the captain to go offshore so we left at 7:30 am in 38f with cloudy skies. The current cooperated today so at least we made time. Saw several eagles and a million other birds of all races hanging together on the shores. Take a lesson America.
Finally anchored at cumberland island national park and went ashore. What a beautiful place and thanks to the Carnegie, mellon and Rockefeller families for saving it from the developer of Hilton head. We lowered the dink for the first time and pulled up to the “fish camp” dock which was where I thought we should dock. Oops, actually it was the sea dock. Turns out we were visiting the Rockefeller family but they didn’t seem to mind. Walked to the beach and encountered lots of pony pooh and some very tame tiny deer. We’ll definitely be back for longer in the spring.
As we motored back at sunset the engine died so greg got to row (sound familiar Bruce and Gina?) then we lit our christmas lights on deck as it is finally warm enough not to be locked below. Tomorrow we will ditch the ditch and head into the ocean.
