flying dogs

The dismal swamp turned out to be a good place to hide while a front passed through so we spent three days and two nights instead of the usual one. This gave us time to explore, hike and look for bears. We didn't see any but did see turkeys, turtles and deer while wandering the state park trails. we were also able to understand how runaway slaves could hide in the swamp for years and why it became a stop on the underground railroad.
While waiting for one of the locks we watched the dog in the picture play with the tire swing for at least 10 minutes. he seemed to be having the best time and was oblivious to everything around him. it is true that dogs have more fun.
Back on the bulkhead we like at elizabeth city we were again treated with a warm welcome by the citizens. this included roses for the women and a wine and cheese party for all. truly a great place to stay and the first time we've enjoyed warm sunny weather so we were able to walk around alot and complete boat chores before heading off for the alligator (none there) river tomorrow.
