Convoy Cup sailpast HMCS Sackville

17 September 2012 | Halifax Harbour and abouts

KARMA IV made her official debut this past weekend as we took time out of the hectic schedule to honour those who braved the WWII Atlantic convoys ridden with nazi u- boats. We used this worthy ceremony to officially stand up the latest version of our Bayfield 36, KARMA IV. In tribute to the many thousands of vessels sunk during that period, we became MV Scottish Mist which was torpedoed with the loss of 16 sailors.

With the Union Jack flying the correct way up, that's right, there is a correct way to fly the Union Jack, we sailed past the veterans gathered on the stern of Sackville, Nancy dipped the colours, I removed my cap and gave two blasts of the handheld foghorn, shouted hip hip hurray and with that, we rounded Georges Island and motored home with the rest of the fleet scattered around us.

About:
Allan and Nancy are both retired military folks who wanted to travel beyond the confines of the resorts and the canned vacations. Extra:
In late summer of 2009, Nancy and I had the opportunity to visit Newfoundland on the Atlantic east coast quickly followed by a marathon drive around Vancouver Island on the Pacific west coast of Canada. These two trips made us realize that joining the convoys of RV's, campers and cars just wasn't [...]
