A great week with Jon, Linda & Ezzie

20 June 2019 | Falmouth

We set off from Darthaven on 6 June and sailed to Plymouth Yacht Haven in Mountbatten. Jon & Linda and Ezzie (their border terrier) arrived the next day ready for a week on board. The weather was not good and pretty windy so we stayed on at Mountbatten. We caught the ferry to Cawsand and walked back along the coast path and through the lovely Mount Edgecumbe park.
Sunday we headed to Salcombe and picked up a mooring buoy. We went ashore in Annie (dinghy) and Ezzie certainly remembered life aboard a yacht and in a dinghy from the year before. The next morning N&L went ashore to mooch around the shops while M&J took Ezzie on the Gara Rock walk. The afternoon tide took us back to Plymouth where we stayed at Mayflower marina while more wet and windy weather passed through.
Then it was on to Fowey taking a look at the anchorage off Looe on the way as a possible day stop on the way back. We were lucky and managed to find a space on the walk ashore pontoon at Mixtow and enjoyed a couple of nice walks as well as exploring Fowey again.
We heard the sad news that Jon’s mother had passed away so we decided to head back to Plymouth rather than stop over at the Yealm. It was a very lively fast sail back with big seas, and Jon did a great job on the helm. No chance of a lunch stop anchored off Looe as the sea was much too rough. We moored at the Yacht Haven and sadly J&L&E left at lunchtime on Saturday. Despite the weather we had a great time and look forward to seeing them soon. They are up for another sailing trip soon to fill in the gap between Dartmouth and Salcombe which will mean they have sailed with us from Chichester to the Helford River.
M&N did some chores then we had a really nice sail to Fowey where we stayed on a buoy overnight. It was quite busy and M&N enjoyed people watching as other boats arrived. The next morning we motored (no wind!) to Falmouth and I am now moored at Falmouth Marina. M&N hired a car to go home for a couple of nights then back on Friday. Weather permitting we hope to head further west and go to the lovely Isles of Scilly.
