Waiting For Wind
01 November 2012 | Ile Uvea - Wallis
We've been here in the south anchorage near Halalo for a week now. Planned on spending a couple of days but since there has been virtually no wind to carry us north it makes no sense to leave. Our friends Frank and Dorte are anchored next to us so we're enjoying their company while we can. There is a small island, Nukutapu about a mile and a half away that is our favorite spot for a BBQ every couple of days. Excellent shelling on the sand spit that connects it with Nukuaeta at low tide and some very nice snorkeling. A couple days ago we saw a big Manta Ray swim by near the beach. Lots of sea turtles too.
There have been a couple of incredible squalls in the past week. Our water tank is filled in no time and with 6 or more inches in the dinghy each time, we're caught up on laundry! We've been enjoying the pineapple, pamplemousse, mangos, coconut and papaya we have on board. Hoping there will be more when we reach Tuvalu.
The GRIB files show that there should be good wind by the weekend so we'll be on our way as soon as it arrives.
