A Short Holiday In The Far North With Friends
09 March 2018 | Far North New Zealand
We just returned to Opua from an excellent 36 hour holiday with our NZ family. : )
If you've followed our adventures, you'll remember that we were rescued, and looked after by the Horan family after losing Kattywompus on a reef in front of their home on Doubtless Bay back in April 2010.
We've stayed in touch, and always visit when we're here. Our schedules clicked this weekend, so we rented a car and off we went to Kaitaia on Friday afternoon. The far north is my favorite part of NZ. It's very rural, rolling green hills as far as the eye can see, stunning beaches of the finest sand, and of course there's the special friendship created by what we call a lucky twist of fate!
Friday evening we enjoyed a feed of Green Lipped Mussels, sausages, roasted potatoes and salad, followed by fruit pie with custard and ice cream for dessert. Lots of time to chatter about how much their kiddos have grown, and who's been doing what for the past 3 years.
Plans for tomorrow include a visit to the beach to collect Pipi's for our dinner, and then a little off road adventure at Shipwreck Bay.
