Better weather - more problems!!
17 May 2009
After completing formalities for entering Greece we sailed/motored back around the north coast of Corfu stopping in Kassiopi and Palaiokastritsa. In Palaiokastritsa John realised we might not have enough diesel to reach Levkas - the next reasonably available refuelling stop. Fortunately one of the tourist glass bottom boat operators helped us out by lending us 2 jerry cans and one of his employees to go to the local garage for diesel. After putting in 40ltrs of diesel we motored down the west coast of Corfu and fouled our propeller again! This time it was about 25 metres of floating line attached to a fishing net marker bouy that we thought we had given plenty of room to pass. Once more over the side for John to untangle/cut it free.
We have passed through the Levkas Canal and are now on the island of Meganisi in a small harbour called Vathi. The weather has improved considerably with sunny, warm days and a bit of wind in the afternoons. However, not wanting to be left out of the fun the batteries supplying our domestic electricity have decided to die and we are now waiting for new ones to arrive at the chandlery in Levkas in a couple of days time. John has been up the mast once again to look at the temperamental anchor light but it looks like that's now fixed? By the time we get the batteries replaced, together with the out of date flares and lifejackets that are overdue for service we are keeping our fingers crossed that we have no more problems.
That's enough for now - looking forward to some good sailing once everything is sorted out and then it's back to Corfu to meet Bernies' daughter Claire and her husband Ali who are joining us for a week in June.
John took advantage of going up the mast to take a camera with him and take the attached photo of Kerenne as seen from the top of the mast.
