Bahamas Behind Us, Beaufort, North Carolina Ahead
10 June 2015 | Less than 300 miles from arrival
The Bahamas, where we completed our circumnavigation, was a beautiful stop-over from the Caribbean to the US.
We left yesterday just before sunset and our passage so far, 24 hours, has been a lot of motoring. The seas are calm and at times, as smooth as ice. It is so beautiful out here. We are expecting some wind this night and some help from the Gulf Stream. Hope to be arriving in Beaufort sometime on Friday. Then a few days in the intra-coastal waterway to the Chesapeake.
Liam has caught two fish; a 15 pound Wahoo. He cleaned it and filleted it. So delicious! The second fish was a Mahi Mahi, but it got away just as we were lifing it up onto the deck.........nnnnnnooooooooooooooo yelled Liam.
We've been making water and our tanks are almost full. Liam just told me that he'll be sad when the passage is over. I thought it was because it is his last time to catch open ocean fish, but he informed me, with a twinkle in his eye that is was due to the fact that while motoring we make water and he just had a 5 gallon shower. Ohhhh, the excess! To put that into perspective, our showers are usually 1/2 to 1 gallon showers.
Salty Ginger is sailing (motoring) along beside us. How nice it is to do a passage with a buddy boat and what wonderful buddies they are!
More later!
