Almost Home

Scotty just called on the cell phone. They have just past the Coronado Islands and are heading for the San Diego Bay channel. The weather has been very foggy all day. They should be at the police dock between 10 amd 11 pm this evening.

Under way again

Scotty called last evening and said that they had spend most of the day working on the issues that were most important. They were both getting some much needed sleep as top side the weather had turned really cold. The plan was to head for home in the morning.

28 October 2011 | The Nose

At anchor

9 am Friday morning. They have dropped anchor in the shelter of "The Nose". There is not really anything there. I thought that there would be a marina, but I was wrong. They are going to spend the day regrouping and solving as many issues as possible. Scotty said he would call again this evening [...]

Calmer Winds

I just spoke to Scotty and things are a lot calmer now. They started heading north as of dawn today. They powered for a while and then had a nice 6 hour sail, but are back to powering again as the winds are very light. They are headed for "The Nose" and the marina there, for at least a 24 hour stay. Change of plans

Well things have not been dull. Due to several issues, none of which individually are serious but together are trouble some. They have decided to head for a port in Baja to solve a few of the problems and then head back to San Diego.

Having a great time

Wednesday morning 10 am, I just spoke to Scott and they are having a ball. They are experiencing storm conditions since 8pm last evening. As of this morning there high seas and strong winds, but they are really having a good time. There are some electrical issues, but nothing serious.

Checking on SPOT this morning, I see that in deed they are under way again. Scotty estimated at least 2 days to get home. He figures he has 38 gallons of fuel so should be OK in that department. Time will tell.

More later.

John is feeling better and at the helm. Scotty was heading to bed to get warm and to get some sleep as he has not had much sleep since they left.

Fritz, Scotty will try to reach you tomorrow(Friday) by phone. He said he was too tired tonight and not thinking straight.

Kind regards,

After an exhausting day of high seas and strong winds and numerous mechanical and electrical issues, along with John throwing up, they "heaved to" for the night to get some sleep. They are now on a northeastern course for the Baja coast to find a port. There they will solve some of the problems and then head back to San Diego.

Please keep them in your prayers for a safe journey.

Thanks.... More later.

They are well behind the fleet as they started sailing as soon as the wind came up late on Monday morning, but the fleet continued to power well into the afternoon. Scotty said he will probably stay a day in Turtle Bay even if the fleet has gone on to the their next stop which is Santa Maria Bay ( 350 miles further south of Turtle Bay).

More news as I get it.
