Gearbox?

I mentioned in a previous blog that we had a oil leak in the gearbox. As we were trapped by weather in Eden for a few days it made sense to try and fix it right! Wrong! I spoke to a the gearbox guy in Sydney and he sent up the seals overnight and Tuesday we pulled the offending part of the side of the gearbox and removed the old seal. It was downhill from there as the seal he sent did not fit so I had the boat immobilised in a very bad weather event down here. But the anchor held and this morning a new part arrived which was also wrong but I had arranged a backup plan and got another seal just in case. So with a bit of quick work we fitted the part and refilled the gearbox and made a hasty exit from Eden. So far the fix looks 100% successful
We are making a run for Bermagui about 45 miles ahead of yet another (yep you guessed it) gale warning.
I have arranged a berth there so we should be comfortable We are currently motoring in calm conditions with a big well spaced swell.
