Seadog at the helm

10 July 2007 | Off Sandy Hook
Winds calm, hazy -visibility 2 miles, hot, muggy, miserable
It was a long dark night up the New Jersey coast. I was on the early evening watch and the lights of Atlantic City were bright, but the rest of the night was very dark. A sliver of a moon glowed red when it rose over the lights of a tug and barge and I thought it was a strange sort of running light.

This morning, I'm anxious to get to New York and goofing around taking pictures of Chip on watch. We should be able to ee the city but this haze over everything means out here at Sandy Hook, we can't see a thing. This city is less than a dozen miles away, but where is it?

Fair winds!
