New Years 2012
31 December 2012 | St. Barths
The New Years Eve dinner prices in St. Barths ranged from $150 to $400 Euros per person, so we decided to have dinner on the boat and then join the festivities ashore. We joined our friends Paul and Kathryn and four of their guests at Cheeseburger in Paradise and danced the night away. We had a great time, except for all the smoke. You would be amazed at how many people smoke in the French Islands. At midnight there was a beautiful fireworks display over the bay. Unfortunately they started two fires in the hills, which were put our in a timely manner. On our way back to the boat a flare almost landed in our dingy. When we woke up the next morning our boat was covered in ashes from the fire - we won't anchor there again if there is a planned fireworks show.
Island 27 - St. Barths
30 December 2012 | St. Barths
My girlfriend Anne arrived on December 27th for a week long visit. We spent two nights in Marigot Bay and then sailed over to Tintamarre. Thank goodness it was Sunday - Family Day. The rest of the week there are alot of naked people running around. We decided that St. Barths would be fun for New Years, so put up the sails and headed south. The St. Barths marina was loaded with Mega Yachts and people.
Christmas 2012
25 December 2012 | St. Martin
We spent Christmas Eve with our friends Paul and Kathryn at Lagoonies. The staff prepared an excellent buffet dinner with turkey, ham and all the fixings. During cocktails we met a wonderful couple, Mike and Diana from England, who have a condo on the island. They joined us for dinner and we have gotten together a few times since. We have met some lovely people that we are so lucky to call friends while out on the water.
Christmas day we joined Paul and Kathryn on their boat for another amazing full course turkey dinner.
Without the snow, decorations and Christmas trees, it does not feel like Christmas here in the tropics, but we did take the time to get together with some great friends!! Here is another example of a tropical tree.
St. Martin - Working on the boat
15 December 2012 | St. Martin
We tied the boat to a mooring ball in the Royale Marina and flew to Cozumel for a week to attend my sister's wedding. It was great to catch up with family, and my sister was a beautiful bride.
Over the next two weeks we put up the new sails, Marc upgraded most of the lights on the boat to LED. Our VHF radio has never worked very well and after some investigation, Marc decided to replace the entire radio system from the antenna on top of the mast, the cabling and a brand new radio. We can now hear boats from miles away, and even better they can hear us!!
After finishing a few projects some extra projects decided to show their ugly faces. First it was the generator, then the inverter (thank goodness it was still under warranty), and then the water maker. No shortage of things to fix on the boat. People ask us what we do to keep ourselves busy on the boat; well alot of it is just keeping things up and running.
