Marsh Harbour's last day

08 March 2011 | Marsh Harbour
Jim
We spent another day on the hook in Marsh Harbour. The day started with listening to Chris Parker's 6:30am weather forecast for this weekend's sail to Spanish Wells, Eleuthera. The forecast looks good for leaving Saturday night, going outside the reefs in the Atlantic and then south down to Eluethera. It sounds like light winds and rolly seas. But maybe we'll be surprised and have somewhat more favorable winds to work with.
After the forecast I moved on to some maintenance items like watering the batteries and then preparing to leave our anchoring spot to fuel-up and get some water in the tanks. Diesel fuel and gasoline is expensive over here this time. It was about $5.25/gal for diesel and gas can be found for about $5.18/gal. Water at the Conch Inn/Marina was $0.20/gal and it didn't look like they were able to meter it. I think they just estimated the amount from the what you tell them that you need.
By 10 am we were safely anchored back in our original spot and making plans to do laundry and pickup some groceries, etc. By the time we got back to the boat it was almost 2 pm and the rest of the afternoon was spent plotting courses for Spanish Wells, and entering course latitude/longitude waypoints into the plotter for tomorrow's sail to Hope Town. We need to leave early in the morn to catch the rising high tide for entering Hope Town harbor as the entry depths at low tide are far less than our 6' draft. I hope we can find a mooring inside the harbor so that we can stay there protected from the cold front coming through Thursday evening. There are supposed to be some windy squalls and strong northerly winds associated with the front.
