Started this morning with a run to the trash disposal spot which is only open from 8:30-9:30am Mon, Wed, & Fri. Violators will be shot….or some such thing! Finally found the place after lugging a full and odiferous bag through the town. Even the dogs walked a different way from us - yikes. After the trash run we stopped for coffee at the 'coffee house' (duh) and read the Sun Sentinel that I downloaded in the morn. After a short trip back to the boat to drop off the computer, we decided to take a "short" walk to Tahiti Beach on the south end of Elbow Cay. 4+ miles later we made it. Thaat wasn't so bad - it was the 4+miles back that seemed to drag on forever!! But it was a beautiful and sunny day albeit somewhat cool (mid to upper seventies with a stiff NW wind). The south side of the island from White Sound south is very different. Gone are the quaint homes and up rise the 'vacation villas' the equal of some of the best neighborhoods back home. But not Mediterranean style, more New England modern meets Bahamas paint schemes. All very new and with few people around. Tahiti Beach was small, very windy, and almost deserted (a handful of people were there). I guess the cooler temps kept people away. Anyway, it was a long walk home dreaming about a late lunch. The picture is at about the 6 mile point on the hike, on a 30 foot high bluff looking out over the Atlantic.
We're staying another day to stock up a bit and then possibly hit the high tide tomorrow so we can float out of the harbor rather than dredge the channel for them. Probably off to Guana Cay to anchor or take a mooring for the night and then prepare to leave for Spanish Wells on Sunday night rather than Saturday night. From Chris Parker's weather this morning it looks like leaving Sunday night will give the 6-8 foot seas a chance to calm down before we sail out into the ocean for the overnight trip.
