Lee Stocking Island anchorage

I can't believe I haven't blogged in a few days. It's already April 2nd! Gene arrived on the 30th and we decided to hang at George Town on the 31st to re-provision. But the day was windy out of the south. Not a big deal for being anchored at Monument beach, but the dinghy ride to GT was A PAIN! A wet 'n wild ride. We finally departed GT for Lee Stocking Island on Friday and had a great sail all the way. The winds picked up a bit and we were close reaching/ close hauled doing 7-8 knots all the way from cut to cut. The Lee Stocking anchorage was peaceful until around midnight when a number of thunderstorms and some rain skirted by us. I could hear the thunder in the distance and I could hear large fish jumping very close to the boat. Later in the morning it rained for awhile but started to clear off by sunrise. Unfortunately the predicted ENE 10-12 knot breeze didn't materialize until we were within a couple mile of the Dotham Cut and the anchorage at Black Point. At Black Point, we crossed paths with Joe on Onward (another Catalina 470) and later had drinks and dinner with him aboard Koala.
Tomorrow perhaps we'll head to Big Majors or Staniel for the evening and explore those cays for awhile before proceeding to the Exuma Land and Sea Park islands on Monday.
Comments
Vessel Name: Koala
Vessel Make/Model: Catalina 470
Hailing Port: Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
Crew: Captain Jim, Nicky 1st mate, Evan 2nd mate
About: The captain is a ex-northeasterner living the goodlife aboard Koala in south Florida.
Extra: Koala is a Catalina 470 built in 2000. The draft is 6' and beam is 14'-0". Koala is also the captain's full time home for the past 11 years and so she may be sitting a bit low in the water. Ok, so maybe the draft is an inch or two more!
