Hiking sans map
01 April 2011 | Lee Stocking Island
Evan
Left Georgetown and made a nice three hour sail to Lee Stocking Island. The sail was brisk with the boat heeled most of the way. I ran a trolling rig but to no avail. Arrived, had lunch, and decided to summit the highest point in Exumas; Perry Point at a cosiderable 125 feet. Jim decided to stay behind on the hike, but Gene was game. Spotted a massive stingray working the shallows.
After the hike to the point, convinced Gene we needed more and decided on Loyalist trail. The hike was hot and circuitous and ran us all over the island. It was good I was with him because he wanted to see it to the bitter end. At some point the trail opened and abruptly ended on an airport runway. Luckily, a beautiful beach was just on the other side. I think the hike paid for itself. Made the return hike with Gene leading in a third of the time. Ran the dinghy full tilt back to Koala. Watched a school of huge yellow jacks use the boat for shade. Left them alone. Enjoyed a nice snapper dinner and called it an evening.
