Green Turtle Cay Arrival
02 January 2016 | Green Turtle Cay
Jim
We arrived in Green Turtle Cay as planned. The trip over on Wednesday morn starting at 3 am was wet and wild and a motor sail. So the late night arrival at Great Sale Cay was a welcomed event. Finally some peace and quiet and a good night's sleep! It is a wide open anchorage that is easy to enter and anchor in the pitch black of night. And it is soooo peaceful when you wake up and sit in the cockpit listening to the lapping of the wavelets. What a difference from the hustle and bustle of south Florida.
Thursday morning dawned sunny and warm with a light breeze but coming from the direction we were to be traveling. Unfortunately it was another day of motor sailing. But we arrived in Green Turtle just about sunset and dropped anchor in front of the Bluff House. Again, a very peaceful night's sleep with light winds. Although the New Years festivities could be heard from many bars, taverns, restaurants and private residences. Unfortunately we arrived too late for customs check in.
But today we are all checked in, and took a hike around New Plymouth settlement. Many things here have changed in the 5 years since I was last here. It seems more prosperous and upscale than before. That's good and bad. Yesterday the waters around Green Turtle were hopping with boats. But today, people seemed to have scattered and headed home after their New Years celebrations and things are definitely quieter.
We just got some WIFI coverage today, so I have not downloaded any pictures or videos as yet. We will get it together and I am sure that Evan will fill in some the other details of the passage thus far. Stay tuned for more.
