Departure time to Great Sale Cay

01 January 2016
Evan
A post, postponed departure but who can argue with Mother Nature and her plan of extended wind and waves. About two weeks later than scheduled we are preparing for a 3AM departure to make use of high tide. Picked up some dry ice to supplement the freezer, and unloaded the car to finish the provisioning. Onboard with the checklist complete, a number of last minute phone calls were made. Almost forgot to set my PFD (offshore personal flotation device), timely, thought to screw in my CO2 canister. Safety first right! I'm sure Jim would have told me to blow like hell in an emergency for the manual inflation.
Brand new EPIRB and ditchbag for the Koala. I question everything. I joke about an equally new insurance policy; we do live in South Florida.
A 2AM wake up came around fast and some coffee was very welcome. It is quiet that early but we whispered a takeoff and were out along the Intercoastal. The cover of darkness ensured a calm start our takeoff and we had the bridges completely to ourselves. The Gulf Stream was intriguing with its schools of flying fish and its dark blue hue keeping my mind preoccupied. 17 hours later after some tedious motoring, no thanks to wind direction, we arrived at Great Sale Cay. Again we did things under darkness, but with an expansive starlit sky.
